LARGE SCALE is a videowork, that depicts the inhabited area where International Leisure Development (ILD) with the support of the local government is planning to construct a destination city of leisure for all ages, that consists of 32 hotel casinos, five (5) major theme parks, a conference center, several other hotels, hundreds of retail shops, restaurants, a golf course, a horse race track, an opera, museums, and residential development (www.granscala.com).

The piece is conceived as the scaled-down model of a corporate office building. The rooms are designed and furnished in accordance to a narrative, which involves three fictitious characters: Rosalind Sedlacek, Walter Petterson, and Dick Schuster.

Breathing City is a video and sound installation comprising of 4 TV screens and surround sound system. The video screens display an 8 minute cycle depicting urban surroundings, captured by computer controlled robotic cameras, accompanied by a musical composition for 4 breathing voices edited for surround sound. The robotic camera movement contrasts with the human motion, opposing the animate with the inanimate, the city life and the living city.

Generative Algorithmen analysieren, verwalten und steuern Ton (8-Kanal), Licht (50-Dmx Kanäle), Video, Tischtennisballmaschine, Herdplatte, Sensoren und Kamera sowie Performer und Text. Studierzimmer/Nachts schafft sich sein eigenes System, welches gänzlich ohne menschliche Steuerung von Außen auskommt: Der Darsteller bekommt einerseits über in das Bühnenbild integrierte Interfaces eine gewisse Einflussnahme auf die Parameter der Technik, welche andererseits wiederum rückwirkend Konsequenzen auf seine Bühnenhandlungen und den gesprochenen Text haben.

Es ging mir darum, ins Spiel zu bringen, was Foucault zu Beginn der Ordnung der Dinge eine „Heterotopie“ nennt [...] Daher hat mein Umweg über China nichts mit Sehnsucht nach Exotik zu tun, es ist mehr eine Frage der Methode. Die Methode, das Denken den Ort wechseln zu lassen, um andere Arten der Intelligibilität zu berücksichtigen, um durch einen Umkehreffekt die Ausgangsbedingungen der europäischen Vernunft zu hinterfragen."
