CCTV

"CCTV" is an interactive installation for public space, which exists so far only as a small scale model and still needs sponsoring to become realized.

Intended as an approximately 12 meters tall sculpture made out of bamboo and linen, it quotates the headquarters of Chinese State Television (CCTV), schedulded by OMA (Koolhaas/Scheeren) to be completed until the Olympic Games 2008, which are hosted in Beijing. This building is for itself a quotation of a sketch done by Japanese metabolists in the Sixties - when the lack of technical means prevented its final construction - that refers to the Chinese character "again, back", whose picture is a Möbius strip from the birds perspective.
In an allusive operation Koolhaas / Scheeren adopt this idea of the "loop" and project it on the dispositive of Tv-Making, when they declare the building as "whole" and "collective".

Of course form and content of the produced images is left up to a selected circle, and is subject to a strict censorship by the state, that has a monopoly on the broadcasted images in main china.

The sculpture should be builted at highly frequented passage ways. Passers-by get the possibility, to fed short clips, which they can produce with their mobile cams, via bluetooth into the fascade of the sculpture, which is illuminated by video-projectors. Out of the unique clips a rhomboid pattern is generated, an ornament, that in its history rethinks the collective as a multitude.

This project also deals with questions of ClosedCircuitTeleVision.
