Projektion 1675

In September 1675 twenty-nine years old Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz witnesses an extraordinary performance on the river Seine. The presentation of an apparatus, that enables its inventor to walk on the water, inspires the young philosopher to such an extent, that he will go back to his desk and author an extensive proposal for an "Academy of Representations". His heterogenous and sometimes redundant listing of possible objects and presentations outlines a "Theater of the Arts", that not only comprehends all kind of machines, instruments and mechanisms, but that expands the area of the sciences into the realms of the theatrical and playful. An enthustiastic Leibniz calculates: If their sense organs are exited, the indifference of the spectators will dissolve. Once the medium of representation and enjoyment is identical with an instrument of knowledge, the incompossible worlds become the variants of the same story...
